Pianist Jonathan Moyer performs regularly in the United States, Europe, and Brazil. Known for his powerful and moving interpretations of the Romantic repertoire and his engaging commentary from the stage, he is also a champion of American music and an advocate of contemporary composers. He has given world-premiere performances in Brazil and the United States. 

A dedicated teacher, Jonathan has taught at The Hartt SchoolThe Hotchkiss School, and Marvelwood School. He is currently on the faculty of Kent School and is the music program coordinator for Farmington Valley Academy Montessori. He also regularly accepts invitations to teach abroad: He has lectured in conservatories and federal universities in Brazil, and visited Germany and Portugal as a guest teacher. 

Jonathan Moyer was born in Santa Barbara, California, and grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a child, he studied both piano and viola, and sang in choirs. Educated at the Raleigh Conservatory of Music, he won numerous prizes in music competitions, and was a member of the Raleigh Civic Symphony and Raleigh Oratorio Society (now the North Carolina Master Chorale). He went on to pursue studies in piano performance at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford, where he studied under renowned pianist and pedagogue Luiz de Moura Castro. 

From Hartt, Jonathan received the Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude), Graduate Professional Diploma, and Master of Music degrees, and was recognized by the school with awards for "the pursuit of excellence in piano performance" and for “outstanding service and performance." Additionally, he won 1st prize in the Old Dominion University Classical Period Piano Competition, runner-up in the CSMTA Young Artist Competition, and the Piano Duo Prize with partner Tamila Azadaliyeva at the FORUM Internacional de Musica Barcelona Ciutat. His piano studies also took him to Russia, Italy, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Portugal, and Brazil. 

Jonathan currently lives in Connecticut. He joined the faculty of Kent School in 2015, after being a faculty member of The Hotchkiss School from 2004 to 2015. He has been a teacher and music program coordinator for Farmington Valley Academy Montessori since 2007. 

Jonathan has performed with the Durham Symphony, Sol Solis Consort, and with members of the North Carolina Symphony. He is active in local chapters of the Connecticut State Music Teachers Association and the American Liszt Society

Jonathan is a coffee connoisseur and film buff, and enjoys downhill skiing, bodysurfing during beach vacations, and baking bread.
